FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have questions?  We have answers.  Here are a few common questions we've gathered to help you get started.

Is there a difference between an Interior Designer and Decorator?

Interior design and interior decorating are two distinct professions.  In short, interior designers decorate, decorators do not design.

Interior design is the art and science of understanding people's behavior to create a functional space within a building and requires education and formal training.  Upon graduating designers must apprentice with a registered designer before passing an exam and becoming registered with a council and/or licensing board.  Designers work closely with architects, contractors and trades.  They can make a space functional, safe and beautiful as structural changes can be planned for.

No formal education is required to become an interior decorator.  Most interior decorators focus on decorative elements like color, fabric and accessories to achieve an aesthetic since structural work is completed before they come on board.

Is an Interior Designer worth the investment?

Reason #1-  You're going to save money.  Repeat, YOU ARE GOING TO SAVE MONEY.  Designers are trained professionals who have a wealth of knowledge, experience and resources.  A good designer will help you avoid costly mistakes, achieve the look you're after (the first time) and ultimately increase the value of your home.

In addition to benefiting financially from hiring an interior designer, they will SAVE YOU TIME.  Precious hours are gained back from a trained designer as they can anticipate (and handle) unforeseen obstacles along with knowing what needs to be done (and when) to keep your project progressing smoothly.  No one enjoys avoidable delays.
